The MBA Hub

Welcome Samad Hinton!

Samad HintonSamad HintonThe Graduate Business Programs department would like to extend a very warm welcome to another new team member, Samad Hinton!

Samad joins us as the new Director of Online Business Education. Samad will be working to develop and promote online business programs, including the undergraduate degrees in Management and Leadership and Supply and Logistics Management, as well as the Online MBA and emerging Master in Global Supply and Logistics Management.

In his first month on the job, Samad has already met with the heads of various online programs around PSU to seek guidance and learn from their experience.

Samad comes to Portland from Dallas, Texas, where he worked for as the Operations Manager for Academic Partnerships, an organization that helps universities bring learning online, recruit and retain students, and access foreign markets.

Samad says he was attracted to Portland because of the high concentration of tech companies in the area, Portland State’s reputation for innovation and entrepreneurship, and the relative proximity to large West Coast cities and Asia.

“PSU is going in a good direction and there is the opportunity to do great things here,” he says. "I don't want to compete with other major online learning programs, I want them to compete with us."

Samad is most excited for the opportunity to help people realize their dreams. “Online learning gives people access to education that they would not otherwise have had,” Samad says. “We have the opportunity to give people the job skills needed to help them get back to work, or if they are already working, to help them take that next step.”

As the Director of Online Business Education, Samad provides visionary leadership to the School of Business and the future of online business programs. So where does he find inspiration? “My parents are both educators,” he says. “I grew up seeing the contribution they made and the feeling of helping people achieve something they thought wasn’t possible. So my parents are my biggest inspiration.”

These days, Samad spends most of his spare time planning his upcoming wedding to his fiancee, Kelly. But he also enjoys jogging, playing basketball and watching basketball. While Samad enjoys trying out all of Portland's awesome restaurants, his fall-back meal is still his childhood favorite: peanut butter and jelly sandwiches with nacho cheese Doritos on top!
