Study Abroad: Germany

A couple of weeks ago, we did a post on December's Social Innovation course and study abroad trip to India.

This week, we explore the study abroad course featuring Germany. The theme for the course, "Lean and Green Management & Innovation for Shared Value," takes place in Reutlingen, Germany from June 23 - July 6, 2013.

The program enable students to gain international perspective on environmental-friendly management and product innovation trends in Germany.

The trip is a collaboration between Albrecht Enders, Portland State faculty member, and Stephan Höfer and Peter Kleine-Möllhoff from Reutlingen University in Germany.

Albrecht, former VP of Product Development for A-dec, Inc., brings 23 years of innovation leadership to provide a wealth and depth of experience to the program. Prior to A-Dec, he led innovation at Siemens Medical Solutions, resulting in platform reinventions that enabled the medical division to regain its #1 market position in less than two years.

The city of Reutlingen is located in the southern state of Baden-Württemberg which borders northern Switzerland and Lake Constance, and eastern France along the upper Rhine River. Baden-Württemberg also includes foothills of the Bavarian Alps and some of Germany’s most famous spa-resort cities such as Baden-Baden. Reutlingen is a city of just over 100,000 and is located about twenty-five miles south of the large, cosmopolitan city of Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg’s state capital.

While in Reutlingen, students will attend class on the Reutlingen campus Monday through Friday for two weeks.

During their first week (June 24-28) students will focus on Product Innovation for Shared Value, and during their second week (July 1-5) students will focus on Lean and Green Management. During the weekend of June 29-30 students will be free to travel and enjoy the country.

Throughout the visit, students will hear local industry expert guest speakers, attend formal lectures, engage in application and experimental exercises, work on case studies and participate in site visits to local experts.

For more info, please contact Rachel Foxhoven via email or phone (503-725-9949). Note to students: application deadline is Monday March 11, 2013.
