FAQ: Applying for the MBA

Have you been thinking about getting your MBA for some time now?

Did you start your application but you're still working on getting all your materials together?

Do you have some questions about the application process?

We're to help! Here are the answeres to some common questions about the application process and the MBA program...

What is the deadline to apply? And when will I receive the final decision?

The next application deadline is Wednesday, May 1st. If you submit by May 1st, the decision date is July 1st. You can submit your application earlier and you will receive the final decision 4-6 weeks from the date of submission of a complete application.

I have all my application materials ready except for an exam (GMAT/GRE of TOEFL/IELTS). Do I have to wait until I have received the exam results to submit my application?

If you are still waiting on the results of a test but have everything else ready to go, you are encouraged to submit your application. Your application will simply appear as an “Incomplete” application in the system rather than being an “In-Progress” application. This will help the Admissions team to easily assist you with the process since they can see which materials have been received and which materials are still needed.

Help! I need more time to study for the GMAT/GRE but am worried PSU won’t get my test scores in time for the application deadline. What do I do?

Don’t worry! Many applicants feel like they need more time to prepare. It takes about 3 weeks for PSU to get your official score report. That means that you should probably plan to take the test no later than the second week in April, which gives you about six weeks from today to study for the exam. So brush off those study books and get to work!

English isn’t my first language but my undergraduate degree was taught entirely in English. Do I still need to take the TOEFL?

If you completed a bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degree in Australia, English-speaking Canada, Great Britain, Ireland, New Zealand or the U.S., you don’t have to take the exam. However, if your degree was taught in a non-English-speaking country, you'll need to take the TOEFL, IELTS or PTE.

My recommenders prefer to mail the letters rather than use the online form. Do I still need to input their information into the form?

In effort to be more sustainable, the admissions office no longer accepts hard copies of application documents. Please have your recommendation providers fill out the online form. If they experience technical difficulties, they may email to request a copy of a PDF form which will be emailed to them.

I am interested in a specialization. What concentrations does the MBA program offer?

The PSU MBA program offers specializations in:

  • Finance
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Sustainability
  • Marketing & Logistics
  • International Business

The Finance specialization is noted on your diploma as "MBA in Finance". Many students choose to note a concentration on their resume. MBA students are also welcome to take electives from the other graduate business programs, such as the Master of International Management and Master of Real Estate Development.

What is a typical day like for a full-time MBA student?
