NEW! Craft Brewing Certificate

There are many things that make living and studying in Portland special and exciting: the great restaurants, the lush green landscape, and, of course, the preponderance of craft breweries.

Portland was recently ranked by Zagat as one of the top "Beer Cities" worldwide. In fact, Portland has the highest concentration of breweries of any U.S. city. There are also many beer themed events year-round, such as the annual Bridges to Brews run, brew pub tours and the Oregon Brewers Festival.

And now Portland State offers a Business of Craft Brewing Certificate

This four course online certificate, offered through the School of Extended Studies Professional Development Center, provides students with an overview of the business processes involved in brewing and selling craft beer. The program covers basic business principles, business management, strategic marketing, and finance and accounting. The course culminates in an optional three-day "Craft Beverage Immersion Weekend."

Several local breweries, such as Rogue, Hopworks, Widmer and Migration Brewing, helped develop the curriculum and will participate in the program. Upon completion of the certificate, students will have an investor-ready business plan for their own craft brewery.
